Free Skool Santa Cruz session info 2021-2025
Free Skool Santa Cruz is a grassroots educational project that provides an opportunity for us all to learn from each other and share what we know, to foster communities of mutual support and autonomy (do-it-yourself-together). The project first existed year-round from 2005 – 2014. In 2021, Free Skool Santa Cruz was brought back by members of the SubRosa collective to be a seasonal project.
Background: In 2021 some of us in the SubRosa collective were talking about the time we were in – “shelter in place” due to the COVID pandemic had lifted and people were gathering again (also acknowledging that COVID had gone from a pandemic to being more endemic – still around and impacts on people something to still be mindful of).
So, what kind of opportunities to meaningfully come together might we work on? Free Skool Santa Cruz came to mind! Over the years since the project had ceased in 2014, many people had reflected fondly on their participation in the project or expressed curiosity. A small handful of us in the SubRosa collective decided to meet and re-start the project!
Now some years later, members of the SubRosa collective are still involved in this revived and not entirely new, not all too different version of Free Skool Santa Cruz.
We look forward to enjoying and learning/experiencing together in the time to come.
